The Institute was founded in the year 1951. Today it is the main scientific centre of Poland. The goal of its operation is to provide public health care, conducting scientific and clinical research, and contributing to the development of hematology, transfusiology and related subjects.
The Institute works in diagnostic, therapeutic, scientific, organizational and educational areas of activities by means of various forms of scientific, specialized and continuous education.
In the sphere of its activity the Institute is an advisory body, while dealing with certain matters it acts an executive agency of the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Poland.
